Donald Trump’s aggressive trade policies and the protectionist global economy are driving wealthy families to diversify portfolios and consider geopolitical risk. On the one hand, corporate deregulation and Trump’s America-first agenda present an opportunity to capture value, prompting investors to broaden exposure to US mid- and small-cap stocks and private equity. On the other hand, escalating trade tensions and Trump’s NATO rhetoric are turning attention to Europe. The EU is rallying to boost security amid fears of abandonment by the US, and bolstered infrastructure and defence companies are attractive propositions for investors looking to allocate away from the US.

Wealthy Americans are not only reallocating assets abroad, but are also seeking residencies and citizenships in stable wealth hubs. London’s prime real estate companies are reporting an explosion of interest from across the pond, while jurisdictions such as Singapore and the UAE are incentivising millionaire democrats with alluring tax regimes. However, offshore assets are increasingly subject to scrutiny, and robust wealth planning is paramount. Hosted by FT Live and PWM, this webinar saw leading private bankers discuss how best to Trump-proof wealth and investment portfolios. The panel explored how global investors and American HNWs are diversifying allocations and reviewing residency strategies in an uncertain and destabilised world.

    Key Topics

    • How are HNWIs planning for black swan scenarios in multi-asset portfolios, and how can private bankers stress the importance of a long-term investment approach?
    • How are investors navigating the impact of tariffs, and what are the best entry points for clients looking to reallocate to European markets?

    • To what extent are citizenships and property now considered insurance policies by UHNWIs, and how are wealth managers refining their understanding of local jurisdictions?
    • Which wealth hubs are attracting wealthy Americans, and does Trump's proposed "gold card" visa stand to counterbalance emigration of millionaires?
